In Congress, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

A Note To Readers

On Saturday we commemorate the birth of our nation, which on July 4, 1776 great men signed and ratified the Declaration of Independence.

The celebration of Independence Day is always, for us Americans, a day to commemorate not only the beginning of our revolution against the enemy of all humanity, the British empire, but it is also the day that began the construction of the world’s first constitutional republic. Then in 1789, we adopted the Constitution of the United States of America, locking in that historic development.

It is good on July 4 to read once again, both that Declaration of Independence and at least the Preamble of that constitution to remind ourselves of the purpose of our republic. Here is the Preamble:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Now our nation and the world are faced with a muti-faceted crisis unprecedented in human history. And these reports I write each week has attempted to provide some ideas of what must be done to bring humanity back from the brink of disaster, while continuing to cover at least some developments that the title of the reports focuses on: California Water and Infrastructure.

In This Week’s Report:

The report begins with the US Drought Monitor, showing the state of the drought for California.

Under the title of “Will the U.S. Really Build Infrastructure?,” we have several items, including that just passed by the House bill, which will go no where; next, a study demonstrating that the continent of Africa must have 7,000 new nuclear power plants; and, finally, coverage of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s speech calling for a real New Deal modeled on that of President Franklin Roosevelt.

Michael Shellenberger has written a new book and he discusses it under his title, “On Behalf Of Environmentalists, I Apologize For the Climate Scare.”

Then the next section, under the title, “World Leaders Must Unite Around an ‘FDR’ Approach,” highlights the surprising speech by British Prime Minister who invokes the New Deal of President Franklin Roosevelt to present his policy for completely restructuring the British economy.

The last report this week is on the Schiller Institute conference of June 27, which had some two dozen presenters and discussants across its three panels. The conference thoroughly examined what an emergency summit process among major nations’ leaders will have to launch, in order that the human species survive the multiple reinforcing crises of pandemic disease, economic collapse and food shortages. The conference was called, “Will Humanity Prosper, or Perish? The Future Demands a Four-Power Summit Now.” A link to the conference is included in the report.
