A Note to Readers
The first item this week provides links to two lectures I presented recently on James Fenimore Cooper.
Then comes the U.S. Drought Monitor for this week. For both the entire West and California, the drought has slightly intensified. Even a small part of California is now registering in the “Exceptional Drought” category.
More and more climate scientists and water managers are warning of the affects of the drought, which include more and more water use restrictions, hundreds of thousands of acres of farm land being fallowed, falling hydroelectric production from the dams, wildfires and even grasshoppers in Oregon.
The Feature this week is my report to candidates for public office in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. I began writing these periodic reports following requests from some candidates in those states for some background on the water crises they are facing as they seek to educate themselves.
