For the past eight years I have authored and published a weekly report: “California Water and Infrastructure Report.”

The drought that now is putting the Colorado River’s ability to continue to supply water and electricity to the 40 million people of the southwest, has reached the most severe crisis since the region has been settled more than 150 years ago.

With this drought being the worst in 1200 years, as a recent study put it, and the Colorado River Basin now in year 22 of what must be called a megadrought, candidates for public office at every level must familiarize themselves with the unprecedented crisis their state and communities face now, or shortly will face.

To that end, I shall publish periodic reports covering at least Nevada and Arizona. This week, we add New Mexico, as we now have candidates from that state, to whom this report is sent.
