A Note to Readers
Despite the parade of recent storms, mostly hitting the Northwest and the northern parts of California, it will provide, at best, a few weeks relief from the western states drought, and delay the further intensification of that drought. And, the storms have not affected a great deal the drought in most of the western states.
One article below, “Western U.S. Drought Approaches Historic Levels,” demonstrates that point.
The California map from the U.S. Drought Monitor even shows an increase of the Extreme Drought category this past week from 41% of the state to 47%.
And this week, “Cal Water Moves to Stage 2 of Water Shortage Contingency Plan.”
The Utah governor declared a drought emergency this week, along with Idaho Falls. Nevada, in which 90% of the water for Las Vegas comes from Lake Mead on the Colorado River is intensifying its restrictions on water use. Texas is in a serious drought, and the article below shows it has not yet reached the intensity of that of 2011.
The next section,under the title, “The War on California Agriculture Escalates,” includes this article, “Drought jeopardizing California’s $50B agricultural sector.” That is followed by several articles which cover: the California Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, and the conflict on the Klamath River between farmers and ranchers and the Native American tribes.
A personal testimony from California farmer Ronald Wagner presents a text and graphs on how “ The Cost to Farm Is Putting Farmers Out of Business.” (see page 11)
TheFeature this week is an article by my colleague Robert Ingraham, and posted on the LaRouche PAC webpage, that has everything to do with the ability of Americans to solve crises. Not being able to think, as the propaganda inundates us, is increasingly preventing a citizens movement from both being able to understand important ideas, and actually threatens our future.
