“Many people around the world, who are not aware that a solution to the manifold crisis of our contemporary world does potentially exist, are reacting with increasing despair, radicalization of one sort or another, or retreat into private life. The mistrust in governments and leading institutions in most places around the world has never been as high as today. We are confronted with the simultaneous escalation of an out of control pandemic; an economic collapse triggered, but not caused by the pandemic; a pending collapse of the transatlantic financial system; and an increasing danger not only of a new Cold War, but the danger that the unthinkable might truly happen: that a third world war, this time thermonuclear, could break out. We are surely facing a systemic collapse–the end of an epoch.”
From the invitation to this weekend’s Schiller Institute on-line conference
A Note To Readers
The Feature this week invites you to participate and watch an outstanding two-day on-line conference this Saturday and Sunday being held by the international Schiller Institute, “War Drive Towards Armageddon, Or a New Paradigm Among Sovereign Nations United by the Common Aims of Mankind?”
An impressive array of international speakers will address the fundamental crisis that is wracking civilization today and present the policy and programs required as solutions.
The program below includes the full agenda and the speakers for the conference.
And in this week’s report:
The Bay area is reported to be in for some hot temperatures this Labor Day weekend, which, once again, raises the fire danger level. Drought in the state has not changed much in the past week, but has intensified throughout the Southwest and the Northwest states.
Our Wildfire report this week is brief and, in summary, the past week has seen increased containment of the now more than 1.7 million acres that has burned in just the last two to three weeks.
California water infrastructure, which is the nominal subject of these reports, has been pushed out of the limelight this year as the pandemic and the fall-out from that has taken center stage. But, we do have some commentary on it from the California Farm Bureau Federation.
That is followed by a report on the Colorado River: “’The pie keeps shrinking’: Lake Mead’s low level will trigger water cutbacks for Arizona, Nevada.”
Next a section on, “The Real Economy, Hunger in the U.S., and an Eviction Moratorium.”
The final section before our Feature covers exciting developments in both nuclear fission and fusion.
