“Competent insight into crucial developments occurring in the future, depends upon the developed capability of the forecaster to have predetermined the content of the action by means of which foreknowledge of the future changes the present course of events.”
Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr.
A Note To Readers
The above quote is from an article by Mr. LaRouche from 2012: “End the Folly In Sense-Perception: Metaphor!” https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/2019/eirv46n09-20190308/67-75_4609-lar.pdf
His words point to how we must determine the future for the nation and humanity over the next 50-100 years. Not crystal ball gazing, but imagining in our minds, the future that we wish to create, and then acting to bring that future into being.
That is how this nation was created and built, whether that was the magnificent document called the U.S. Constitution or the Trans-Continental Railway almost a century later. It is what was expressed by President John Kennedy, who, in 1961, said that we would put a man on the Moon within the decade, and then we proceeded to do that.
Today, as we look 50 years into the future, what is it that we can forecast will be the reality for those generations alive then? Will it be the Hell of wars, a return to feudalism, or will it be a species that is now a space-faring species that has mastered fusion and eliminated all poverty?
That subject is explored further in our Feature this week: “The Past as Present and Future.”
And as one of Mr. Larouche’s collaborators said, “As you said, the forecasting is a question of actually giving mankind an ability to act; it’s about action, creating action…. A successful forecast is actually creating the capability of mankind to create a new state, to create a new change.”
And There Is More In This Week’s Report:
Washington State remains the only state in the country that drought is both widespread and serious.
The Oroville Dam update does not have a lot to report, but we do have a nice photo of the “cap” of concrete on the emergency spillway now completed.
There is not much content to the legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate to deal with drought, but it should be reported. So, I do that.
We are now in the “fire season,” and an article that provides a comprehensive overview of the preparations and prevention measures now underway is included in this section. Also, two items calling attention to the fires in the Great Basin follow. The Great Basin is a 200,000-square-mile region of mountains and valleys that includes all of Nevada and much of Utah, as well as parts of California, Idaho and Oregon.
Under the title, “No, We Do Not Have a Great Economy Right Now,” we contrast the difference between a real physical economy and the financial bubble that it is now. Only fools think the stock market, actually a cancer, represents the real economy.
The section on desalination includes an item reporting on progress of new and improved methods for removing salt, dramatically cheapening the process.
Under the title, “Infrastructure, Nuclear Power and Fusion,” you will find an excellent article summarizing the infrastructure deficit and some of the problems and solutions to addressing that. That is followed by several more articles, including a proposal by China for funding U.S. infrastructure projects. Finally, in this section articles on nuclear power and a fusion-powered spacecraft are included.
This week’s report concludes with the Feature as discussed above.
